Mavic is an equipment manufacturer in the cycle industry. Created in Lyon in 1889, it has been owned since 2005 by the Finnish company Amer Sports, which also owns Atomic, Wilson, Suunto, Precor and Salomon.
It was under the direction of Bruno Gormand from 1962 to 1985 that the brand really took off to become a major player in cycling.
Its success relied on unconditional support from the Tour de France riders, which made it visible on the stages covered by television.
Mavic is the acronym for Manufacture of Velopedic Articles Idoux and Chanel.
